commentaire : | A unusual plan of Paris. Centered on the City and St Louis Island.Guillaume Dheulland (1700-1770). master engraver and draughtsman was most known for his large Plan of Paris in 1756. He also engraved for famous cartographers such as Charlevoix. Bellin. Cassini and Prevost.He copied directly this large map of Paris from a map that was on display at the Bibliothèque de Saint Victor which was thought to be unique. It is also the same map of Paris that is represented on a tapestry which belonged to the Maison Guise. and was bought by the city of Paris under the provostship of M. Turgos.It is an interesting map because it depicts Paris as it was under the rule of Charles the V and Charles the VI for the exception a few changes made subsequently by following the following French Kings.In 1766 the City of Paris purchases the cooper plates and publishes a second edition. The note on the upper left corner states that this map is an engraved copy of the Town Hall?s tapestry. It is not to be conf |
